3    Short explanation of the user interface

After creating the new project (or opening an existing project) you will have two windows in front of you, see Figure 3:

  1. The Explanation window on the left side: this window will provide you with all kind of information related to selected items in the right window.
  2. The Workbase on the right side: this is the window used for all input and choices and will present all the intermediate and end results.

Figure 3: Explanation window and Workbase

The Workbase is the main window to work in (hence the name of the window). It is divided into four user areas, see also Figure 4.

  1. tree view on the top left side shows the hierarchy of analysis steps, the Entities of the taxonomy structure.
  2. The list view on the right side of the tree presents all single value input, choices and results.
  3. The table view on the bottom presents all multi case value input, choices and results.
  4. Five important process buttons between the list view and the table view of the WorkbaseThe first two buttons from the left enable you to start, interrupt and stop the analysis process. The buttons are dynamic and will inform about the actions you can take by pressing them. The Filter button enables you to filter results. With the Process Manager button you can start the Process Manager. The last S button on the right side is to switch between the default large buttons with text and the compact "classic" buttons. See also Figure 5.

The content of the Entities is presented as list values and as table values (if applicable). Before, during and after the process you are free to browse through the tree (the Taxonomy solution) by selecting nodes (Entities) and values in the list or the table. Explanations on your selections are presented in the Explanation window, see Figure 3.

Furthermore, the Workbase provides feedback during calculations. This is done either by the mouse cursor or through the box below the buttons. This box changes color and provides text with the actions currently performed. Blue stands for waiting for input and red for processing commands.
