Info

Release notes is a supplementary document that is distributed with the software product and shared with customers detailing the changes or enhancement made to the product (bugfixes, additional features). Writing release notes is a joined effort of the development team.  Release notes can also contain test results and information about the test procedure. This kind of information gives readers of the release notes more confidence in the fix/change done; this information also enables implementers of the change to conduct rudimentary acceptance tests. Release notes are also an excellent mechanism to feed the process of end user documentation; user guides, marketing materials and training materials.

After reading the release notes for a specific product  version it must be clear which enhancements and/or changes are included in this version. Enhancements, changes and bugfixes might also be documented in MITS. Release notes for these issues can be generated automatically using MITS.

Release notes should contain release information for the latest version and all other product versions. If this becomes a very long list of enhancements, changes and bugfixes seperate pages can be added to organize this.
